桂花（彩墨）

這種花我們只畫葉子，花實在太小了，只能用小色點表示。不過花雖小，卻香得很呢，是一種很高貴的香。

不記得是哪位女作家，說她小時候常站在她們大宅院家的桂花樹底下，拉開裙擺，叫女嫞搖晃桂樹，桂花紛紛掉落在她的裙子上，稱為「桂花雨」。又說那些個小小的花兒還可以拿來做糕餅呢──好美的畫面。

這張畫中間我們擺一隻鳥，藍背紅肚，是我喜歡畫的鳥種，木樨花則用小黃點點上，如果再隨意地拋擲這些小黃點，灑在畫面上，便也是另一種「桂花雨」了。

Osmanthus/ink and color painting

Because the flowers are too small, I only painted the leaves of this plant and used small dots of color to represent the flowers. Although the flowers are small, they are highly fragrant, and this is considered a very esteemed scent.

A female author, who I don’t remember, recalled that during her childhood she often stood in the courtyard of her family home, underneath an osmanthus tree, pulled out the hem of her skirt, and had a servant shake the tree. The osmanthus blossoms fell into her skirt, and she called this “osmanthus rain.” She also said that the blossoms can be used to make cookies-what a wonderful scene that would be.

There is a bird with a blue back and a red belly in the center of this painting. I like to paint this kind of bird. I used small yellow dots to depict the osmanthus flowers. If I just splashed these little yellow dots across the painting, that would be another kind of “osmanthus rain.”　＠
