【大紀元11月1日訊】(大紀元記者南希華盛頓DC報導)2007年10月22日至28日是「全美關注中國人權迫害週 (National Human Rights in China Awareness Week) 」﹐美東中區人權聖火全球傳遞 (HRTR) 及法輪功受迫害聯合真相調查團 (CIPFG) 在週末三天分別在維吉尼亞州首府瑞曲曼市(Richmond VA)﹑美國首都華盛頓特區(Washington DC)﹑馬里蘭州最大城市巴爾的摩 (Baltimore MD) 聯合舉辦聲援人權聖火全球傳遞公眾集會。
社會各界代表﹑不同族裔社區人士﹑教師學生﹑律師醫生﹑社會大眾都趕來參加集會﹐他們持用不同語言書寫的橫幅標語，向集會民眾和過往遊人傳遞著相同的信息﹕「奧運和反人類罪行不能在中國同時進行」、「釋放法輪功學員」、「沒有人權就沒有北京奧運」。在首都華盛頓特區與會民眾用中文、英文、法語、俄語、德文、韓文、印度語、越南語、老撾語等合唱「人權聖火之歌」或朗誦歌詞，歌聲此起彼落﹐長久迴盪在國會山的上空。
2008奧運前中共加劇人權迫害已引起各界的關注﹐馬里蘭州聯邦眾議員以萊亞‧康民士(Elijah Cummings)10月28日為集會發來聲援信﹐支持人權聖火全球傳遞。信中說﹕「奧林匹克運動會象徵著團結﹑友愛﹑及競技實力。我希望這些比賽能為實現所有人的平等權利，帶來新的努力和進展。」
10月26日﹐維州首府瑞曲曼市議會副主席蒂洛瑞絲‧麥克奎恩閣下 (Honorable Delores L. McQuinn) 代表市議會親自參加了集會﹐並頒發褒獎狀。宣佈10月21日至28日為瑞曲曼市 「關注人權聖火全球傳遞週」。在接受記者採訪時﹐麥克奎恩女士說：「中國人權問題是個全球的問題，無論是在瑞曲曼市、在加利福尼亞、還是在中國，當人類遭到酷刑迫害的時候，每一個人都應該站出來反對，尤其是生活在自由國度裡的人們，我們應該利用每一次機會站出來抵制人權迫害的發生。」
麥克奎恩說，她要向她所見到的每一個人講述中國發生的人權迫害問題。她同時表示，當人權聖火明年3月傳遞到瑞曲曼市時，她準備封閉市中心所有街道，讓瑞曲曼市人民集中起來﹐歡迎人權聖火的到來。麥克奎恩說：「我瞭解瑞曲曼市人，他們會全力支持的。」
10月23日維州諾佛克市保羅‧佛萊莫 (Paul D. Fraim) 市長也對「人權聖火全球傳遞」頒發褒獎狀﹐並宣佈10月21日至28日為諾佛克市為「關注中國人權迫害週」﹐並鼓勵所有市民參與為期一周的相關活動。

WHEREAS, the Human Rights Torch Relay is an international campaign initiated to raise awareness of the human rights situation in China; and
WHEREAS, community events will be held during the week of October 22 – 28, 2007 that will feature walking, running, singing, along with speeches by concerned individuals and groups; and
WHEREAS, Human Rights Torch Relay participants- government officials, Olympic medalists, individuals and organizations the world over – will carry a symbol of justice and respect for humanity to cities around the world; and
WHEREAS, the Human Rights Torch Relay has been well received in Europe by citizens and athletes since it was launched in Athens, Greece on August 9, 2007; and
WHEREAS, the Human Rights Torch Relay is anticipated to be in the United States in late March/April 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Human Rights Torch Relay is dedicated to supporting human rights improvement in China and preserving the truth Olympic spirit.
NOW THEREFORE, I , PAUL D. FRAIM, Mayor of the City of Norfolk do hereby proclaim the week of October 22 – 28, 2007 as
HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHINA AWARENESS WEEK
