英文谚语（三）

每一种语言都有传递其文化内涵和智慧的谚语，具有悠久历史的中文自不必说，但西方的英语虽然历史不长，却同样有很多谚语或歇后语，蕴含着生活的哲理和智慧。

解释：岁月唏嘘不待人。

　　

一、Time活学活用：

　　

1、Time（名词）：

　　

What time is it? 相信大家知道是问时间的句子。

　　

Do you have the time? 一定也是英语中常用来问时间的，告诉他几点钟就可以了。笔者有一位世伯在很多年前搭飞机，邻座的西人用以上的方式问他时间，世伯不懂，便回答：“Oh, yes. I have plenty of time!”当然啦，在飞机上呆20多个小时，一定有plenty of time。哈哈！

　　

区别在于句子中是否有“the”，如果没有“the”，意思便不同了。

　　

Do you have time？是问你有空吗？而不是问时间。明白了吗？

　　

What a time you have been! 你倒花了相当的时间在做某件事上。

　　

Now is your time! 现在是你的机会！指你有所作为的时候到了。

　　

He knows the time of day. 他什么都知道，指人什么都知道，不是糊涂人。

　　

At the time of the year, I would remember those young lives lost in that bloody night on the Square. 每年在这个时节，我便会想起那些失去的年轻生命，在那个血腥的黑夜，在广场上……（作者指每年六四前后，Square第一个字母大写表示那个广场有代表性.。

　　

Behind the time：落在时代的后头。

Behind time：指迟到，晚了。

On time：准时。

Take your time：慢慢来，不用急。

Hard or bad times：指不景气，或社会不景气、经济不景气。

Ancient times：古代。

　　

2、Time （动词）

　　

The remark he made was not well timed.

指某人说话不合时宜。

　　

time one’s blow：伺机打击他人。

time your work：对自己做的事有个时间预算。

　　

二、Tide （潮水） 活学活用：

　　

The tide is in （or down）：指现在是涨潮（退潮）。

　　

go with the tide：顺从时势。

　　

catch the tide：趁机（指做生意）。

　　

The tide turned to him. 形势对他有利。（or against him. 指形势不利于他。）
