　　Acre 這個字原意是田地，不管是甚麼田地。後來怎麼被用來作為土地的度量單位了呢？英國愛德華一世統治時期，把一隊牛一天所能犁的地的尺寸統一規定下來，作為丈量土地的單位：一英畝地（acre） 有40桿長，4桿寬，相當於4840平方英碼。
