包潤石聲明支持香港選舉改革和全民普選

【大紀元1月10日訊】(大紀元華盛頓記者蕭陽報道) 美國國務院發言人包潤石今天就香港民主進程發表聲明﹐全文如下﹕

香港的民主

最近(發生)的事情﹐如2003年7月1日和2004年1月1日的遊行﹐反映了香港人民對于依照(香港)基本法規定﹐推進民主進程的願望。

美國強力支持在香港通過選舉改革和全民普選(實現)民主。這將促進經濟和社會發展﹐同時也有利于香港在“一國兩制”框架下的繁榮。

Democracy in Hong Kong

Recent events, such as the July 1, 2003 and January 1, 2004 demonstrations, reflect the desire of the people of Hong Kong to advance the democratization process, as provided for under the Basic Law.

The United States strongly supports democracy through electoral reform and universal suffrage in Hong Kong. These will advance economic and social development as well as contribute to Hong Kong's prosperity within the "one country, two systems" framework.
