孟子说:“谁要当面说出子路的缺点，他就特别高兴（子路，人告之以有过则喜）；禹听见别人提意见，就行礼感谢；大舜了不起的地方是：乐于放下自己的观点，听取他人，所以能从耕稼陶渔开始，最后作了天子。”
“闻过则喜”指虚心接受意见。

"Zi Lu, a student of Confucius, was always very happy whenever someone pointed out his shortcomings face to face. The legendary Chinese emperor Yu always sincerely thanked every person who criticized him. The most extraordinary thing about the legendary Chinese emperor Da Sun is that he never held onto his own opinions stubbornly and was always happy to learn from others.
