中國掩蓋女孩死於禽流感
禽流感的新聞目前在全世界都是重點新聞，很值得花點功夫讀懂、聽懂這類新聞，是一個很好的切入點。本則新聞不長，只有91個字，特別適合初學者，大家可以先看新聞影片報導，再看文字稿，再讀講解，最後再在沒有文稿輔助的情況下，再聽個兩遍。
新聞英語的好處就是不斷的會重複，所謂「太陽底下沒有新鮮事」，那麼同一類的新聞會不斷的發生，不斷的被報導，於是很多單字你不去特別記它都自然爛熟於胸中！最重要的就是不會忘記，因為重複次數太多了！

According to media in mainland China, 12-year old He Yin from Hunan Province died from bird flu after eating infected poultry. Cremated the day she died, the local government reported that she died of pneumonia.
On October 12, He Yin had a fever after she came home from school. She was dead by Oct. 17 after complaints that it was difficult to breath.
Officials at the health organizations in Hunan Province deny that it was bird flu. They did not, however, publish any other details on the cause of her death.

【講解】
死於什麼原因可以用die from, die of 都可以。Infected poultry, 受感染的家禽；-fect這個動詞字根是to run的意思，to run in（細菌）跑進去了，所以infect是感染，infected就是受到感染的。
Cremate, 火化。Cremated the day she died, 這是前置的分詞片語，意思是「她死的那天就被火化了」。還原成簡單句就是：She was cremated on the day she died.
Pneumonia, 肺炎，是一個很重要的醫療新聞用字，值得記一下。P不發音，會念之後記整個字的字形就可以了，不一定要會拼，因為你不是要當記者用寫的，只要看到、聽到時，能懂就可以了。

根據中國大陸的媒體，湖南省十二歲大的賀茵，在吃了受感染的家禽後，死於禽流感。她在死亡那天就火化了，當地政府報導說她死於肺炎。

【講解】
had a fever, 發燒；have +疾病名稱，等於是suffer罹患的意思。By Oct.17, 十月十七日前，這裡by與before同, no later than,不遲於。Complaint, complain的名詞，一般作「抱怨」，這裡當「訴苦」；法庭新聞中常作「控訴」解，a formal charge against a party.
【譯文】:
十月十二日，賀茵放學後發燒。在訴苦呼吸困難後，在十月十七日前，她就死了。
Officials at the health organizations in Hunan Province deny that it was bird flu. They did not, however, publish any other details on the cause of her death.
【講解】
中文裡沒有後位修飾，一律是前位修飾；英文則可作前位與後位修飾，而且後位修飾幾乎是可以無限延伸。Officials at the health organizations in Hunan Province就是名詞officials用了兩組介係詞片語，at the health organizations和in Hunan Province，去作後位俢飾所形成的，翻譯成中文時就放到官員的前面去，作為形容詞用。
【譯文】:
湖南省衛生官員否認是禽流感。然而，他們並沒有公布任何關於她死亡原因的細節。
