A joint U.S.-South Korean investigation is underway… looking into the reason behind the sinking of a South Korean ship.

The Cheonan sank off the west coast of the peninsula near the disputed Yellow Sea border with North Korea on Friday.

The South Korean Defense Ministry said 58 of the 104 people on board the vessel were rescued before the ship snapped in half and sank.

Murky water and strong currents at the site have hampered rescue efforts.

Now efforts are underway to lift the sunken ship from underwater, and a U.S. team has arrived at the site for a joint investigation with South Korean authorities.
