如何阅读英语新闻的标题（二）

在新闻标题中，经常用现在式来描述新闻事件，英文报纸是报导昨天发生了什么事情，照时态来看，应该用过去式才对，但新闻主编为了让这则新闻看起来像是正在发生的，是一条新鲜的新闻，而不是过去的旧闻，所以在标题上就使用现在式来描述新闻事件。但内文就回复到正常的过去式了。

举例：Mother and Daughter Poison Themselves in Tiananmen Square
母亲与她的女儿在天安门广场服毒自杀
Poison当动词，原本是已发生的事情，过去了，但标题中仍使用现在式。

举例：“Statements of Resignation from the CCP” Attract Citizens in Jilin
退党声明吸引了吉林市民。Attract用现在式。

再者，标题中的冠词，如a, an, the，也都省略了。

举例：Sixth grader arrested for child prostitution
一位六年级女生因儿童卖淫被逮捕
A sixth grader was arrested for child prostitution.

举例：President Chen says democracy only way to maintain economic ties
陈水扁总统说，民主是唯一维持经济关系的唯一方法
President Chen says democracy is the only way to maintain economic ties.
