韩宣子对周市说：“我真不明白，为什么我的马有充足的谷物吃，但看上去却是那么瘦弱？”

周市回答说：“如果喂马的人真是给它吃得饱，它没有理由不肥壮。反之，如果喂马的人光是说给它吃得饱，而实际上并没有这样做，它没有理由不瘦弱。假如你光是坐在这里担忧，而不去查清这件事，你的马是不会肥壮的。”

The Thin Horse

"I don't understand this!" Han Xuanzi told Zhou Shi. "I feed my horse well--she has more than enough grain to eat--and yet she still looks dull and thin."

"If your groom really gives her more than enough grain to eat," Zhou Shi answered, "there's no reason why she shouldn't be sleek and fat. On the other hand, if your groom merely says he feeds her well but in fact gives her a scanty meal, there's no reason why she shouldn't be dull and thin. Now if you don't start getting to the bottom of this matter soon, but sit here worrying, I'm afraid your horse will remain thin.
