Anchor：Before a packed Senate hearing room and dozens of cameras, the heads of America’s embattled automakers– General Motors, Ford and Chrysler– came back to Washington urgently looking for help.

Rick Wagoner is the chairman and CEO of General Motors — which is asking the federal government for $18 billion in loans, including $4 billion by the end of December to ensure its survival.
